My Story...

When I became a mom at the age of 31, I really didn’t think I would struggle in my new role.  After all, I had been a Registered Nurse for most of my twenties and was an experienced postpartum nurse and public health nurse. I felt confident and capable teaching parents how to feed and care for their babies, so I didn’t think I would have any issues…

Boy, was I wrong.  I was shocked to find out that it is entirely different when you are the parent and the child is yours. Three days after my son was born I broke down crying, feeling like I was a failure because I couldn’t get a good latch. I knew all the techniques, but I just couldn’t get it right.  Luckily I had an amazing friend, a nurse, who helped me that day and reassured me that my son and I could learn together.  And we did.

Then when my daughter was born, she was an extremely fussy, gassy baby who didn’t want to be put down and cried for hours and hours.  Not only was I exhausted and searching for answers as to how to make her feel better and sleep better, I was also going through postpartum depression and anxiety which made everything harder.

This is the reason I started the Mama Coach business. Finding qualified support was life changing for me, and I wanted to make sure it was available to other parents. Help with both feeding and sleep challenges? Yes, please!

My Mama Coach business opened in 2018, offering prenatal classes, CPR/choking classes, starting solids classes, infant feeding support, and sleep coaching.

As time went on, I became a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and I now specialize in providing care for families experiencing a wide range of infant feeding challenges.

At the core of my work, is a desire to help mothers (and parents) feel more confident in their role and to strengthen their connection with their babies.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading!  I look forward to getting to know you and your baby!

Frequently Asked Questions

Good question!  We are called The Mama Coach because years ago, when Carrie’s first boy was very small, she often wondered out loud to herself, “Where is my Mama Coach?” and “I need a Mama Coach!”.  Carrie searched and searched for qualified support and realized there was a need for qualified support for new families. We recognize that our name can give the impression that we only serve moms, but we will continue to work and learn to ensure our messaging is clear that all people are welcome here. Parents carry a heavy load, and do it with grace.  All parents deserve support, and The Mama Coach is the answer you’ve been searching for.

We do not just support moms — we help ALL people.  All are welcome here, and we are committed to providing you with quality support, no matter your gender or family dynamic.  As we learned in nursing school, your family is who YOU say they are.

Yes.  As Registered Nurses, we have years of training on where to access credible guidelines and information. All of our programming is based on extensive research from credible sources.

As Registered Nurses, it is our professional obligation to manage client records and confidential information properly.  We use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) that is compliant throughout North America.  Even though we share the same brand, we are all independent Registered Nurses with our own private practices. As such, we each have our own EMR that is private and secure. We do not share EMR or client information between one another without consent.

Often they are, if your Extended Health Benefits coverage includes ‘Lactation Consultant’ or ‘Registered Nurse Services’.  Many benefits programs have a general ‘Health Spending Account’ that families get coverage through. Reach out to me for more information.
